Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Deep TMS) is a groundbreaking treatment for adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder. OCD is a highly debilitating condition with a lifetime prevalence of 2–3%, and 40–60% of patients experience only partial or no response to medication. When other conventional therapies and antidepressant medications have failed, Deep TMS may help.
The TMS Center at Compassion Mental Health Services is western Pennsylvania’s first and the only center to offer the BrainsWay dTMS device for OCD. Deep TMS is safe, non-invasive, and FDA-approved. The treatment involves magnetically stimulating frontal brain structures and networks, including the cingulate cortex.
Treatments last 18-20 minutes over 5 to 6 weeks. Deep TMS therapy is an outpatient procedure, does not require hospitalization or anesthesia, is generally well tolerated, and entails minimal systemic side effects.
